Bracing

Treatment Options

For growing patients with moderate curves (typically 20-40 degrees), we may recommend bracing. Modern braces, such as the ScoliBrace, are designed to:

  • - Push the spine into a corrective position
  • - Counteract the scoliotic curve
  • - Preserve spinal strength
  • - Reduce postural deviation

Bracing is typically recommended to be worn 16-23 hours per day until the patient reaches skeletal maturity.

Surgical Correction

Treatment Options

For severe curves (typically over 45-50 degrees) or cases that have not responded to conservative treatment, surgical correction may be recommended. The procedure typically involves:

  • - Placing screws on each side of the affected vertebrae
  • - Securing rods to the screws to stabilize the spine
  • - Using bone graft material to promote fusion between vertebrae

Personalised Treatment Plan

Treatment Options

Based on the comprehensive assessment results, our team of specialists, led by Dr. Sherief Elsayed and Dr. Maher Obeid, will develop a personalised treatment plan. This plan may include a combination of monitoring, exercises, bracing, or in some cases, surgical intervention.

At the Dubai Scoliosis Program, we believe in a patient-centered approach. We take the time to explain the assessment findings and treatment options, ensuring that patients and their families are well-informed and comfortable with the proposed care plan.
